1/48 SWS J7W1 Shinden
1/48 SWS J7W1 Shinden
GaelHobbies features this incredibly popular Super Wing Series J7W1 in 1/48 scale.
The airframe and internal structure of the 1/32 Shinden have now been scaled down to 1/48. This has resulted not simply in reducing the size of parts from the larger kit, but a certain amount of combining and condensing the structure to cater for the smaller size. The engine is a particularly nice piece of tooling – you can see by the accompanying pictures that it is indistinguishable from the real thing without a very close inspection. SWS starts this new 1/48 series by offering the mystery, charm and power of the Shinden. But don't miss out – this kit is expected to sell out as quickly as the 1/32 version!
The Shinden was the 18th trial fighter craft developed as a prototype by Kyushu Aircraft and initiated by the Japanese Navy's orders for an aircraft capable of intercepting the United States long-range bombers.
"I won't let anyone stop this development!"
During the end of the war, as the fighting intensified, development of an interceptor craft, a trump card against the enemy's long-range bombers, was rushed through. The canard design was a proposition based on the highest level of technological development at the time. It was the realization of the 'Shinden', with its bizarre structure, including the 30mm guns mounted in a 4-way configuration located in the nose.
Japan's J7W1 Shinden was the only World War II aircraft of canard configuration that any combatant ordered into production.
