1/144 Metallic Details Curtiss-Wright CW-21 #MDR14455
The Metallic Details Curtiss‑Wright CW‑21 #MDR14455 is a highly detailed 1/144 scale multimedia aircraft model kit that recreates the Curtiss-Wright CW-21B interceptor, a lightweight American fighter developed during the late 1930s. This kit combines high-quality 3D-printed components, photo-etched metal parts, and decals to produce a finely detailed miniature representation of this rare and historically significant aircraft. The precision-printed parts provide sharp structural detail and accurate shapes, while the photo-etched elements enhance smaller features and surface details that add realism to the finished model.
The Curtiss-Wright Model 21, also known as the CW-21 Demon, was developed by the St. Louis Airplane Division of Curtiss-Wright as a lightweight interceptor focused on exceptional climb performance. The improved CW-21B variant was distinguished by its inward-retracting main landing gear, which eliminated the external fairings used on earlier versions. With its radial engine, low wing loading, and light airframe construction, the CW-21B achieved an impressive rate of climb—surpassing that of contemporary Japanese fighters such as the Nakajima Ki-43-I “Oscar” and the Mitsubishi A6M2 Zero in this area of performance.
A total of 24 CW-21B aircraft were assembled at Andir Airfield in Bandung, Java, in February 1941, where they equipped Vliegtuiggroep IV, Afdeling 2 (2-VLG IV) of the Netherlands East Indies Army Air Force. During the Netherlands East Indies campaign of 1941–1942, the unit claimed four aerial victories while operating the aircraft against Japanese forces. The CW-21B was produced between 1938 and 1940 and remained in operational service from 1939 until 1942.
Kit features include:
1/144 scale Curtiss-Wright CW-21B interceptor model
High-quality 3D-printed parts for detailed airframe components
Photo-etched metal parts for fine exterior details
Decals included for accurate markings
Represents the rare CW-21B interceptor used in the Netherlands East Indies
This detailed multimedia kit offers modelers a unique opportunity to build a representation of one of the lesser-known Allied fighter aircraft of the early Pacific War, combining modern modeling materials with historical aviation significance.
