Guillow's 0-1E Bird-Dog South Vietnam "FAC" Aircraft Balsa Kit# 902
Originally designated the L-19, the Bird Dog went in production in June, 1956 and was used during the Korean campaign as a liaison aircraft by Army Field Forces to spot enemy troop concentrations, direct ground operations, carry ammunition, and evacuate wounded. Returned to production in 1962 and designated O-1E, the Bird Dog gained fame anew as a “FAC” aircraft (Forward Air Controller) in the South Vietnam War where it was very effective in spotting and directing fire against VietCong Forces.
This kit contains material for building one flying model. Contents include:
accurate scale building plan
Die-cut balsa parts
light vacuum formed plastic for nose cowl, canopy and small external details, genuine decal set
scale plastic main wheels
rubber motor band
plastic propeller
plastic thrust bearing
wire propeller shaft
covering tissue
generous quantity of strip stock balsa
Tools and accessories required & recommended (not included in kit):
adhesives (model airplane cement, white glue, or CA super glue) for model frame construction and white glue for tissue covering, clear acrylic spray for a protective finish
Model building tools and accessories such as work board, common pins, sandpaper, X-Acto knife, paint.
