The 1903 Wright Flyer was the first successful heavier-than-air powered aircraft. It was designed and built by the Wright brothers (Orville and Wilbur). Between 10:30 A.M. and noon at Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina on December 17, 1903 the start of powered flight as we know it had it's beginning. The Wright Brothers flew, for the first time in history, a powered flying machine taking off under its own power and flying for a distance under human control, to a point not lower than the point of take-off. That first flight only lasted 12 seconds and covered a distance of 120 feet but it was the start of something that would change all of humankind.
