This week we highlight the 1/48 Revell F-86D Sabre Dog

This great Revell kit comes with 104 parts and is molded in Light Gray. It includes waterslide decals and is 10-18" long with a wingspan of 9-1/8".

The F-86D Sabre Dog was an all-weather interceptor development of the famous F-86A fighter used in Korea. It required a completely new fuselage to accommodate a J47-GE-17 engine and an advanced E-4 flight control system. In addition, it featured a redesigned nose housing the radar antenna. In order to shoot down enemy bombers, the F-86D had a retractable tray of 24 "Might Mouse" rockets beneath the fuselage. The F-86D entered operational service in April, 1953 and 2,504 aircraft saw service with the U.S. Air Force. Most of these were stationed in the US with the Air Defense Command, with the balance in Europe and the Far East. In spite of its large size, the F-86D was the fasted production fighter in the 1950s. In 1952 and 1953 it established several new world speed records.
