The PBY-2 Catalina is the perfect addition to our OPENBox collection this week

GaelHobbies features the beautiful PBY-2 Catalina in 1/72 scale. The PBY was the result of a design competition between Douglas and Consolidated and Consolidated won the competition because of its low price, just $90,000 per aircraft. The order for 200 PBY-2 Catalinas was the biggest airplane order placed with a manufacturer since the end of the first World war. The PBY Catalina earned high marks for durability and the ability to land and take off from fairly rough seas. The incredible range of the Catalina helped to scout and rescue missions support the various services and countless airmen owe their lives to the Catalina. The Catalina also racked-up an impressive number of submarine and cargo vessel sinkings demonstrating the flexibility of the platform. This OPENBOX kit was acquired from a large collection of scale models in 2020 and all parts are accounted for and in great condition. Decals are in great shape
