History: Manfred Von Richthofen achieved his first confirmed kill today (17 Sept, 1916)

On Sept 17, 1916, Manfred was still getting used to the missions as he was flying an Albatros D.II biplane, he achieved his first confirmed kill while he was stationed with a battalion in France. As the squadron of five planes pursued a group of five British planes over Cambria, Richthofen focused on one of the aircraft and set course to gain the best position. Once engaged, the aircraft fought to gain the upper-hand.

“I was animated by a single thought: ‘The man in front of me must come down, whatever happens,’” Richthofen wrote in his journal. Finally, Richthofen pulled behind the British soldier, fired a series of shots and downed the pilot and his plane.

Be on the lookout for the entire fleet of aircraft piloted by Von Richthofen as we build the collection for November.

We have plenty of the Fokker Dr. I kits, which the Red Baron is well known for flying.
